Impairment a Contributing Factor in El Mirage Crash that Injured Nine, According to Police

Wrong-Way Driver Collides with Trooper on State Route 303 in Peoria

The suspect was identified as 44-year-old Anthony Compean of Avondale. Compean was arrested and charged with aggravated DUI – wrong way, aggravated assault, and driving with a suspended license. The trooper sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a hospital before being released.

Fatal Crash on Interstate 17 at Table Mesa Road

October 10, 2022

On Monday, October 10, 2022, at around 3:51 am, a four-vehicle collision occurred on northbound Interstate 17 (I-17) at milepost 236 (Table Mesa Road) that resulted in three fatalities. A Toyota SUV traveling in the wrong direction struck a Honda sedan, a Nissan sedan, and a commercial vehicle. Two passengers in the Honda sedan were pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the Honda sedan was transported to a Phoenix area hospital in critical condition, where they later died from their injuries. The drivers of the Nissan sedan and the commercial vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the Toyota SUV was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The collision is believed to have been caused by impairment, which is under investigation.
