Winter College Scholarship
One $1,000 Scholarship Award
Malcolm Clay
Malcolm Clay is currently attending the University of Alabama Birmingham pursuing a Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health Policy and Leadership. Originally, Malcolm was pursuing a nursing degree. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, Malcolm encountered health challenges both personally and within his family. After overcoming his health challenges, he enrolled in a community college and graduated at the top of his class. Malcolm earned an internship with the Center for Disease Control as a Morehouse Imhotep Scholar. He used his personal and academic experience to remodel innovative methods to promote environmental wellness. Through his community engagement skills, educational skills, and ability to think outside the box, he won the National ABRCMS award in 2022. Malcolm also had the chance to be a UW-HIPRC INSIGHT intern in 2023. Through this internship, he worked on innovating data collection measures to create ways to advocate for pediatric victims of TBI in rural parts of the United States. Malcolm is an advocate for the next generation of healthcare leaders. He was a panelist at the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice in 2024. Malcolm spoke on organizational efforts to improve recruitment and retention for youth healthcare workers. He plans to continue innovating the public health field by contributing to research, investing in healthcare innovation through utilization of different public health services, as well as aiding policy analysis and legislative improvements.

Elodie Lapointe
Elodie Lapointe graduated high school from Beverly High School and is currently an undergraduate at Hampton University. While attending Beverly High School, Elodie participated in the Birthday Wishes club. This club centered around fulfilling birthdays and adjacent festivities. Through her experience with Birthday Wishes, she was inspired to envision her own nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting immigrants and parents and children who are adjusting to life in a new country. Her ultimate vision for this nonprofit is to foster a strong sense of community among immigrant families, ensuring that everyone feels a sense of belonging in a country they have every right to call home.
Winter Law School Scholarship

Caitlin Mattar
Caitlin Mattar is attending the University of Kansas where she is working on finishing her International Business degree. She finished her Accounting degree last semester. She is also currently working at a law firm as a legal assistant. Caitlin’s parents immigrated from Lebanon and she was raised in Wichita, Kansas. Caitlin hopes to work in child disability and immigration law. She is committed to advocating for those marginalized by our social system, fighting tirelessly to secure the justice her clients deserve. As an attorney, she will dedicate her efforts to ensuring justice for children facing discrimination and providing a path to citizenship for immigrants.
Winter Nursing Scholarship

Katelyn Nguyen
Katelyn Nguyen recently graduated from Oregon State University with a BS in Biology. She recently started an accelerated BSN program at Oregon Health and Science University. While at Albany InReach Services from October 2021 – January, 2023, she volunteered to assist uninsured patients, particularly those residing in rural areas. She faced firsthand the challenges these individuals met in accessing adequate healthcare services. In October 2023, she volunteered at the Grand Ronde Food Pantry. During her volunteer day, she made a personal connection who asked Katelyn to visit the local school’s after-school programs to share her journey, experiences, and insights with students and talk to them about pursuing higher education and careers in STEM. Her volunteer experiences have only confirmed that a career in healthcare, particularly as a nurse, is her true calling, allowing her to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Winter PT/OT Scholarship

Lillian Pileri
Lillian Pileri is currently a senior at Tigard High School in Oregon. She plans to attend either George Fox University or Oregon State University in the Fall. She will be majoring in Kinesiology with a Pre-Occupational Therapy track. Her plan is to become an Occupational Therapist and work with children with disabilities. At the end of Lillian’s sophomore years she joined the Unified program at her high school. Tigard Unified is a Special Olympics sports team made up of both neurotypical and neurodiverse students. Being a part of Unified has given Lillian the chance to see the Tigard community show up and support a group that almost never gets the recognition they deserve. This opportunity and the experiences she has encountered made her realize that she wants to pursue a career as an Occupational Therapist specializing in work with children who have disabilities.
Winter Medical Scholarship

Sullivan Salone
Sullivan Salone graduated from UCLA in Spring 2024 with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Psychobiology. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, with plans to apply to medical school in the upcoming application cycle. Sullivan previously spent time volunteering at vaccine clinics in Antelope Valley and collaborated with physicians, nurses, and fellow volunteers to ensure equitable access to vaccines, with a particular focus on under resourced communities. Through this experience, she was able to connect with community members and increase vaccination rates. She also was involved in mental health research at the Bearden Lab at UCLA with a focus on neurobehavioral manifestation of adolescent-onset neuropsychiatric disorders. Sullivan has also been involved with the Peterson Lab at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles which allowed her to contribute to the Sequential Multiple Assignment Randomized Trial (SMART) which assesses treatment strategies for youth anxiety. She was accepted into the Psychology Research Opportunity Program (PROPS). This program is designed to support students from underrepresented backgrounds. Sullivan has received instrumental mentorship through PROPS and hopes to pay it forward and mentor students.
We were truly impressed by the overwhelming number of scholarship applications received. Each submission showcased remarkable effort, dedication, and determination. The vast number of entries serves as a testament to the countless hours spent studying, personal sacrifices made, and the steadfast commitment to achieving educational aspirations. We would like to congratulate our scholarship winners Malcolm, Elodie, Caitlin, Katelyn, Lillian, and Sullivan!
