Winter Medical Scholarship
One $1,000 Scholarship Award
Sanjana Butala
Sanjana Butala graduated from Rider University Summa Cum Laude with her BS in Biology. She is currently a first-year medical student attending Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Rutgers University in New Jersey. She has a vision of specializing in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery during residency. Sanjana feels this profession is a potent tool to assist survivors of domestic abuse suffering from burns, acid attacks, rape, or sexual assault and also a distinct opportunity to serve children and marginalized populations in developing nations afflicted by conditions like cleft lip, injuries, and disabilities. She hopes to collaborate with charitable non-profit organizations such as SmileTrain and Operation Smile to address the global demand for skilled plastic surgeons.

Kaitlyn Harrington
Kaitlyn Harrington is a freshman at Villanova University studying computer science and creative writing. She sings with the Villanova Voices women’s choir and also competes with the Villanova’s Taekwondo Team. In 2018, Kaitlyn founded “Play It Forward”. This initiative uses social engagement and data management tools to generate community donations of soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and field hockey equipment. The gear is provided free to kids who otherwise could not afford the equipment so they can keep playing sports. Kaitlyn’s efforts have been honored with the Girl Scout Gold Award, President George H.W. Bush Point of Light Award, Union League of Philadelphia Good Citizen Award, National Liberty Museum Young Hero Medal, United States Congressional and Pennsylvania Legislative citations for service leadership. Kaitlyn’s most significant validation is seeing kids’ smiles when they receive their equipment, knowing they can play.

Noah Harris
Noah Harris graduated from Harvard College in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government, Minor in History. He will be attending Harvard Law School this Fall. Noah is the first Black man elected Student Body President in Harvard’s 385-year history. He was featured on CNN, MSNBC, and USA Today. Noah has a drive and passion to reform the criminal justice system and to fight against voter suppression in Mississippi. He plans to use his law degree as a civil rights attorney in Mississippi to fight against systemic and racial injustices.

Ella Stone
The day before she turned 17, Ella Stone earned her Bachelor’s in Mathematics from Southern New Hampshire University. She is now enrolled at Texas Woman’s University Graduate Program pursuing a Master’s Degree in Teaching Mathematics. Ella has served for six years at a sports camp that hosts 700 kids from the community and her choir spends two weeks each summer encouraging those in juvenile detention centers. She also serves as a mentor for young girls. Ella has also worked alongside local ministries serving homeless, impoverished, at-risk youth, and special needs populations. In 2024, she will return to New Orleans to serve. Ella was recognized by President Biden for earning the bronze, silver, and gold President’s Volunteer Service Awards. This semester, Ella hopes to continue serving those in her community and beyond.
Winter Nursing Scholarship

Brendan Wong
Brendan Wong graduated from the University of San Francisco with a BS in Nursing in 2016. He was accepted into the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist program at Columbia University and he will start this year in June after separating from the U.S. Army after over 7 years of Active Duty service. As an Army Nurse, Brendan was consistently recognized for his decision-making abilities and was placed in positions of elevated responsibility. After attaining his DNP in Nursing Anesthesia, Brendan hopes to continue to serve as a patient advocate and become a healthcare leader.
Winter PT/OT Scholarship
One $1,000 Scholarship Award
Emily Zimmer
Emily Zimmer graduated from the University of Iowa in the Spring of 2023 with a Major in Health Studies, emphasis in Pre-Occupational Therapy, minor in Psychology, and a Disability Certificate. She is now attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to complete her MSOT. Emily created the “Hawkathlon” – an adaptive fitness challenge for people with disabilities. The Hawkathlon was the first-of-its-kind event in Iowa City emphasizing the need for adaptive and inclusive events. Every fitness station had multiple adaptations with an overall structure focusing on the individual accomplishment and empowering participants to challenge themselves. The mission statement reflects Emily’s personal and professional goals to “create inclusive opportunities to make exercise a fun and accessible activity for all.” Emily is choosing a career as an Occupational Therapist with a mindset of inclusion, accessibility, and independence to empower and advocate for clients to continue living their most successful lives.
We were overwhelmed by the sheer volume of scholarship applications received. Each entry reflected immense hard work, dedication, and drive. The multitude of submissions stands as a tribute to the extensive hours dedicated to study, personal sacrifice, and unwavering commitment demonstrated towards advancing educational goals. We would like to congratulate our scholarship winners Sanjana, Kaitlyn, Noah, Ella, Brendan and Emily!
