The statute of limitations in Arizona for a tort action is generally two years from the date of injury. However, this time period can be dramatically shortened, as follows:
If your claim involves a government/public entity such as a state, county, city or school district. In this instance, you have only one year to file a lawsuit and you also must properly serve a notice of claim to the property entity and representatives within 180 days from the date of injury.
If your case involves defamation, workers compensation, dog bite or another type of claim that arises from a statute, you have only one year from the date of injury to file a lawsuit to preserve your claim. Workers compensation claims may require an earlier reporting to an administrative agency before a lawsuit can be filed. These and other time periods are subject to several exceptions, which may cut off your right to make a claim for your injury.
